Some people are confused about Twitter. Not so much by Facebook, because Facebook is, in their minds, mostly about friends and family. But Twitter can seem to be a vast unknown space with vastly unknown people who have, in their minds, little to share of interest to them.
When I first started using Twitter, I was, admittedly, a teeny bit in awe. Here was this vast unknown space of vastly unknown people who, in my mind, may have something interesting to say and with whom I could share information. But hey – that’s me, and this mindset may be that of the extrovert who doesn’t know a stranger.
I first started following people who I had heard about as people who knew a bit about social and new media. Now, some folks can say exactly who they first followed (if you recall how to find this out, please leave a comment since I have forgotten). I can’t. I do know that once I found the public timeline and search capability I rapidly accumulated people to follow who were also interested in the social and new media phenomenon.
How does using Twitter enrich your life?

Thanks for the posting Gina! Here is my list of how Twitter enriches my life.
1. Foremost, I actually get paid to tweet, so you can’t get better enrichment than that!
2. It allows me the opportunity to dip into a “stream” of conversation that I would have NEVER been able to do so in the past. Consider conversing about the Masters (golf) with fans in Belguim, England and France at the same time, while watching it on TV. Priceless!
3. It affords me the opportunity of finding out places on the net that I would have never naturally stumbled upon, making me better.
4. It “trains” many to provide concise description of things and events. No more long, drawn out and janky diatribes.
5. It is hard to spin-doctor within 140 characters, so people that want to sell you something have a REAL difficult time participating effectively, YEA!
6. It presents interesting personal meetups. “at Starbucks on Dorothy Lane, wanna cup of joe with me?” introduces a new networking dynamic of meeting total strangers.
I am sure I have a dozen more reasons, but I’ll leave these bits.
Have a great weekend!
Best,
Mike
